With the abundance of issues that currently surround the citizens of this country, decisions must be made when it comes to prioritizing these challenges in order to most effectively solve them. Different groups of people have varying views in terms of what is most important to work on. Due to this disagreement, there is a standstill and some issues are left to grow while they are overshadowed. While the United States government focuses their attention mainly on the economy and foreign affairs, the issue of protecting children from abuse and neglect is an ongoing struggle that needs to be more acknowledged. It can lead to feelings of inferiority, poor self-worth, suicidal thoughts and actions, as well as anxiety. As these children age, they are more likely to abuse drugs, be promiscuous, and flee from home (Fisher Lab, 2010). The system that is presently being used follows certain procedures, which are as follows: When an instance of abuse is reported to the Department of Children and Families (DCF), a social worker is sent to interview the people involved. They visit the home and speak to the abuser, abused, and anyone else who resides with them. After putting together a file, DCF works through the case and decides what steps should follow. Unfortunately, due to the enormous load of cases, most are pushed to the side to tackle the worst cases. Most often, therapy or an anger management class is recommended.
